THE GREEN CAT

When I travel for work, I tend to stay at the same hotels, and end up at the same places for food.  I was so excited to discover The Green Cat right by my hotel while staying in Virginia Beach last year.  I mean, there’s cat in the name, so obviously I had to go check it out.

They specialize in organic, plant based, gluten free, and mostly raw foods.  I know my food restrictions are a bit onerous/annoying/high maintenance, so I really appreciated being able to eat pretty much anything on the menu.

The menu includes cold-pressed juices, smoothies, smoothie bowls, salads, soup, oatmeal, and snacks.

The kale pesto salad gets two thumbs up.

I can also attest to the smoothies and smoothie bowls being delicious, too!

On my most recent trip, I needed a snack in a pinch and discovered a lavender protein bar.  It knocked my socks off and I have set out to recreate it.  Stay tuned for the recipe, it’s a good one!

HELLO!

Well, hello there!  Welcome to Passports and Provisions, my new little space to catalog travel, recipes, and happenings in the D.C.  area.  I’m Amy, marketing/sales/events manager by day, figure skating instructor by night, living in our nation’s capital.  When I’m not working, you’ll find me in the kitchen testing out new recipes, or planning the next adventure.  Here’s a taste of what you’ll find on the blog:

Travel: I will highlight the best spots to eat & caffeinate, sights to see, and tips specific to the location.

Recipes:  Most of the food I make is gluten-free, dairy free, and nightshade free.  Some are paleo friendly.  More on that later…

Happenings in D.C. area: I’ll cover restaurants, events, and other buzz around D.C.

I hope you’ll join me on my adventures across the globe and back here at home!
